Evelyn Glennie shows how to listen

What struck you?
What struck me was how without the sticks she could play the instrument, and do different sounds wit her hands and invent some to and also add her bracelet noise but what was the most striking thing is that she's death; and she can still add other sounds and make them sound good together and she doesn't need to hear nothing.

What did you notice?
I noticed that you could tell that she's really into music and although she can't hear what she's playing she feels it some how;and what I also noticed was that she could close her eyes and still be on track on what her next note or where ever shes putting her note is going to be. And also I noticed she has an accent which I thought it was nice:) although it sounded funny.

What did you enjoy about her performance?
What I enjoyed about her performance was how she played it, but that she was playing solo with nobody like a partner etc. And also I liked how she was explaining the instruments that if the "marimba" didn't have that space below it wouldn't sound the same or better.

School garden

Student questions:
What type of plants are you growing?
Strawberries, flowers, artichokes, onion, carrots, beats, potato, cabbage, Suzuki, cilantro, mint, oregano.

What are the flowers for?
Flowers and plants were added to attract bugs, ladybugs etc.for more benefit on our plants, to get all the nutrients.

When did you start with the project?
We started in October.

What type of fertilizer/soil do you use for the plants?
We use old leaves for fertilizer for the plants because it turns into rich soil.

How is the system to water the plants?
We put black tubes and placed them on ever base to cover it, and it waters the plants it doesn't use nor waste water it uses the exact amount.

questions:
What did you like or not like about the garden?
I didn't like it that much because it was to small and sort of everybody was in one spot and there was barely shade, but the plants they were growing were cool that's the only things that i didn't really like.

What struck you about it?
What stuck me about the garden was how the students put it all together like connected the water tube and how was it going to get water, and the time when plus using leaves for soil.

Would you like to continue the seniors work?
Um... I really wouldn't because I don't really like and not interested in planting and all those things I don't find it fun, but it's not bad or nothing they really did a good job on it.

Sustainability visit

1. What struck you about the location you visited? Was it what you expected, or very different? What struck me was that there was a lot more people walking around then I expected, I thought that there were going to be like 6 families and barely people and just grown- ups but there were adults, seniors, and children. I expected it to be more quiet to but it was the opposite there was even music and people asking questions of the different organics there were.
2. Which items were cheaper than you expected? Which were more expensive? Well It would depend like what I saw was that the littler fruits,or vegetables etc. were cheaper but the pound was a lot just for a few, and the bigger kinds of things were not cheap at all, sort of everything was at a high price but some things weren't.
3. Do you think you will start going to a farmers market more often? Or using a community garden? Or supporting a CSA? Well I really don't know because my mom is the one that does the shopping sometimes when I'm not with because I'm at school, And when I do go with her for groceries it mostly at supermarket, Pancho Villa etc. It's really rare when we go to an organic market; just sometimes we do cause my mom works with a lady that sales toughs types of things,And she buys off her.
4. How do these locations fit into our essential questions of “Why Don’t People Live More Sustainably?” and “How Can I Convince them to do So?”
Well It's really up to them because some prefer to not pay a lot for like a piece of celery etc, but some actually really want there kids to be healthy so they try and make more money so there payments well even out and they can buy what they think is better for them and for there loved ones; not just go for the cheapest things because It doesn't last a long time.Like a new pair of shoes obviously your not going to go buy it at the 99 cent store because if you use the common sense there going to tear quickly in a couple of days then if you buy them at a shoe pavilion,DGB etc.

Talking these ideas out

What me and my family talked about was that these days we have seen difference in our food choices, but that anyways in any healthy food we get its not natural or organic. And that sometimes we don't make the right decisions in food we eat out when there's food in the house sometimes, but we didn't really based on that just that yeah there's not many good things we can find and that my mom always checks the labels and all though other things which sometimes maybe exaggerating. But after that everyone started going there way and doing there things so we never finished because they weren't in to it but the last person at the table with me was my mom which wasn't a surprise because she really gets into things easily and mostly if it has to do with our school; so we just kept talking she asked me some questions. Like what did i learn etc. and after that she changed subject to the chores I have to do but that's about it

Dialectic journal-school daze

Quote:
"When the youngsters of your culture graduate from school (unless their families continue to
take care of them), they must immediately find someone to give them money to buy the things they need
in order to survive. In other words, they have to find jobs. You should be able to explain why this is so."

Response:
I think that at the age of 13-14 that they say know things don't completely know a lot they have more things to pass through, barely taking that next step but scared to take it completely. And just act tough and that they do know a lot and everything for there age just to look good in front of other people and especially there parents, saying i don't need your help I can do it on my own, I'm not a baby no more I can take care of myself, and blah blah blah. But us as the teenagers know that it's all the opposite we do need a lot from our parents and that we are constantly asking them for things that we want need or just saw something at the moment you liked and just make up excuses of why you need it but we only say lies to get our way, which sometimes don't work but it's worth a try. The thing is that at some point or our whole life's growing up as an adult were going to need our parents for something or just any little thing or what to wear etc.So the point is we don't know everything as teenagers,We need someone there.
